چکیده

The real exchange rate real interest rate (RERI) relationship is central to most open economy macroeconomic models. However, empirical support for the relationship, especially when cointegrationbased methods are used, is rather weak. In this paper we reinvestigate the RERI relationship using bilateral real exchange rate data spanning the period 1978 to 1997. We first clarify the logic of applying cointegration methods to the RERI and propose an alternative way of testing the relationship. We demonstrate that the failure of earlier analyses to detect a stationary real interest rate is largely due to the low power of the tests employed. JEL Classification: E43; F31; F41

برآورد نرخ حقیقی ارز در کشورهای عمده صادرکننده نفت (2005-1970)

The purpose of this paper is to study the main determinants of the bilateral real exchange rates for major oil exporting countries vis-à-vis the US dollar. Taking into account the impact of the real oil prices on real exchange rates, it may be observed that oil prices play a significant part in determining the terms of trade. In addition to the real oil price, two other fundamental factors that...

Have we missed the business-cycle relationship?

This paper investigates the link between real exchange rates and real interest differentials over the recent floating-rate period. In contrast to earlier econometric studies, we find evidence of a relationship, with the strongest link at trend and business-cycle frequencies. Because these prior studies focused on high-frequency components of the data, they found no statistical link between real...

Real exchange rates and real interest rate differentials: A present value interpretation

Although the real exchange rate real interest rate (RERI) relationship is central to most open economy macroeconomic models, empirical support for the relationship is generally found to be rather weak. In this paper we re-investigate the RERI relationship using bilateral U.S. real exchange rate data spanning the period 1978 to 2007. Instead of testing one particular model, we build on Campbell ...

The Impact of Domestic and Foreign Monetary Policy on Iran\'s economy: Global Modeling

One of the striking features of the business cycles is the patterns of co-movement of output, inflation, interest rates, and real equity prices across countries. This paper empirically examines the effects of domestic and foreign monetary policies on Iranchr('39')s macroeconomic variables (including real production, inflation, short-term interest rate, and real exchange rate) using quarterly da...

A Real Di ff erential View of Equilibrium Real Exchange Rates ∗

This paper examines the interaction of G7 real exchange rates with real output and interest rate differentials. Using cointegration methods, we generally find a link between the real exchange rate and the real interest differential. This finding contrasts with the majority of the extant research on the real exchange rate real interest rate link. We then identify a new measure of the equilibrium...
